Dimapur | February 28
DIMAPUR DEPUTY Commissioner K Nzimongo Ngullie has issued a notification to all elected members of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to attend the no-confidence motion against their incumbent Chairperson Y Vikheho Awomi. Barring nominated and ex-officio members of the civic body, all 23 elected members have been told to be present at the conference hall of the DMC office on March 10 at 11 am. 13 members of the DMC, led by Tovihoto Ayemi and Khekhaho Assumi, had earlier attested their signatures on the petition written to the DC asking for the ouster of Vikheho. A simple majority of 12 would decide the outcome of the vote. The outcome of the no-confidence motion would then be forwarded to the Government of Nagaland.
Taking a new and interesting turn, it has come to the light of this paper through highly reliable sources that the actual petition submitted to the DC included 15 names. Two did not countersign their names and have been termed as ‘undeclared persons’. The “trump card” of the 13 signatories as already mentioned in a press briefing by the dissidents is reportedly one among the two. As such, in the signed petition issued to the DC on February 25, the names of only 13 councilors are present.
Meanwhile, H Tovihoto Ayemi, one of the main dissidents seeking the removal of Vikheho from office, today said his attention had been drawn to the campaign of misinformation and deception launched by ‘vested interest group and persons.’ Asking all concerned to restrain from acting in such a manner, he said in a release: “The motion of no-confidence has been filed and it must be taken to its logical conclusion.”
Maintaining that indulging in misinformation and harmful propagandas cannot be in the interest of any parties but would rather create acrimony and confusion, Tovihoto denied any wrong doing on his part. “I can only say the truth will prevail sooner or later.”
Concurrently, the Women Wing of the Nagaland People’s Front stated that they were “delighted to learn that three matured and responsible leaders from different political affiliations have decided to join the Nagaland People’s Front under the leadership of Hewoto Awomi, MLA, 2 Dimapur II A/C.”
Warmly welcoming the three DMC members into the NPF fold, a release said, “We are optimistic that their joining the NPF would further strengthen the party in numerous aspects.” Lauding Hewoto for boosting the strength of the party in Dimapur, the women said the achievement would benefit the society for “lasting peace, progress and all round development.”
Meanwhile, a team of NPF Central leaders arrived from Kohima today to take stock of the situation. The members are expected to take damage control measures and try to resolve the imbroglio within the DMC.
