DC Tuensang issues directives to pet owners

TUENSANG, MAY 24 (MExN): Concerned that some village/ward authorities/individuals/groups have issued 'shoot at sight' order for dogs, the Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang issued an order informing that this is a punishable offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. 


“Therefore legal proceedings shall be initiated under Section 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code and the prevention of cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 against any village authorities/ward authorities/ individuals/groups acting in contravention to the prevention of cruelty to animals Act, 1960,” the order said. 


Meanwhile, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and several quarantine centres being sit up in different parts of the district, the DC directed all pet owners to prevent their pets from straying outside their respective home premises. Action shall be initiated under relevant section of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 against the owner whose pets are found loitering in the town/villages, it informed.


The DC also notified the following institutions have been requisitioned as quarantine centers with immediate effect:
•    Sao Chang College Tuensang 
•    Government Polytechnic Sedem 
•    St. John's School (both Higher Secondary and Primary section) 
•    Industrial Training Institute (ITI) 
•    Government Higher Secondary School 
•    Imlong Theological College 
•    CBLT Guest House 
•    Baptist Thangyen School Tuensang
