An awareness programme marking the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held under the global theme “Breaking the Chains: Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery for All!” at Town Hall in Tuensang on June 26.
Deputy Commissioner Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa attended the programme as the special guest. In her address, the DC Tuensang emphasised on collaboration in order to fight against drug addiction in the district, stated a DIPR report. She said, “Tuensang is fortunate to have addiction treatment facility where many drug users are treated and have some positive changes.”
The DC added “our society’s mindset should change towards the user and give them a chance to change by giving them proper guidance and support. Many addictions happen among the broken families where parents have a great role to play in moulding the children.”
The DC also encouraged the NGOs, churches and the students’ community to come together and pave a way for a drug-free society in the District.
The programme was chaired by Laam, OST Nurse at District Hospital Tuensang. The invocation was pronounced by Kamchila, Chaplain of the same hospital. Longlang Luckpan, District Welfare Officer Tuensang, delivered the welcome address.
A keynote address was delivered by Chongshen C Chang, District Program Officer of DAPCU. A special melody was presented by students of the School of Nursing, Tuensang. Toshi Chang, Officer-in-Charge of Tuensang Police Station, spoke on the topic “Battle Against Drug.” The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sentilemle Longkumer, ATF Counsellor.
