Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome on Wednesday inspected the completed and ongoing developmental projects in Ikishe village, which was adopted as a model village by former Rajya Sabha MP, Khekiho Zhimomi.

Inaugurating a couple of projects under SAGY programme including the resting shed, the DC called upon the citizens of Ikishe to be an example to other villages as a model village.

Yhome said the village would be a model village in the true sense if funds allotted are used in the right way for the development of the village.

Pointing out the various problems faced by the people, the chief guest said the government alone is not to be blamed and added that every member of the public is to be equally blamed for stalling or non-starting of various developmental activities.

“If the general public is contributing to the problems, then they should also equally contribute to the solutions,” Yhome said.

Reminding the villagers that the concept and vision of SAGY is based on the principle of “work more talk less”, the DC said perhaps Naga people are lacking behind in developmental front as they are more prone to talks rather than action.

Yhome further urged the citizens of Ikishe model village to initiate ‘social audit’ for transparency of the project and proper usage of funds.

It may be mentioned that Ikishe model village was adopted by former Rajya Sabha MP, late Khekiho Zhimomi in March 2015. SAGY secretary, Khubolho T Yepthomi gave a brief report of the developmental activities taken up by the village under SAGY.

EAC Chumukedima, Thungbemo Patton, in his welcome address reminded the villagers that success of any government scheme or project starts from the grassroots level. The EAC urged for proper implementation of the fund. He further said that the success of the village would be an example to other villages and departments for judicious usage of the fund.

Vice chairman, Ikishe Village Council (IVC), Kughato Chophy chaired the programme and IVC chairman, Dr. Kheshito Zhimomi proposed vote of thanks.

It may be mentioned that Ikishe along with Selouphe village under Dimapur district are two of the villages in Nagaland state which were included in the first phase of model villages to be adopted under the present NDA government in the Centre.
