Dimapur, July 29 (MExN): The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) is deeply concerned over the plight of businessmen in the state, particularly the Petroleum Dealers’ Association (PDA) who had expressed frustration and misery at the unending extortion culture in the state.
The DCCI issued a note today referring to the grievances of the association. “It is an undeniable fact that petroleum products are one of the most important and necessary commodities required for everyday use. Shortage of such products will result in the breakdown of the lifeline of people and professionals from all walks of life,” the DCCI stated in its note, appended by its president Hokivi Chishi.
“Unlike other commodities, the price of fuel cannot be raised at will by the dealers while its meager profit or margin of just a few paise remains the same, as fuel pricing is now driven by the world markets after de-regulation of price control by the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) of the Government of India.”
The DCCI said it continues to strive to ensure that businesses are carried out without hindrance “for which the Police are also clamping down on various criminal acts particularly extortion.”
The organization appeals to all organizations to accommodate the grievances of the PDA to ensure that there is no closure of petrol pumps or shortage of fuel as this would gravely affect everyone from every strata of society. Fuel is a very essential commodity which is used by everyone, including the various organizations themselves, the DCCI said.
