Dimapur | June 22
With various organizations calling for lightning bandhs on several occasions and a particular organization’s order on Sunday closure affecting the business community in Dimapur, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) has issued a stricture disallowing downing of shutters on such occasions and also lifted Sunday closure after 12 noon for several business categories.
A decision to this effect was made in the form of resolution during a general meeting of Dimapur business community called by the DCCI on Saturday at Durga Mandir. Business establishments, excepting pharmacies, in the city were closed during the meeting from 8:30 am – 10:30 am and attended by more than a thousand businessmen.
The first point resolution stated that the Dimapur business community would under no circumstances down shutters during bandhs called by any organization, association or union unless there is a government administrative order or directives from the DCCI to do so. Any business establishment violating this resolution would be penalized with a sum of Rs 5000, it added.
The business community also resolved to not entertain any form of illegal collection by NGOs and student bodies either in terms of monetary or through sale of calendars, lotteries and tickets. Those business establishments violating this resolution would be subjected to action as deemed fit by DCCI, the resolution stated.
Further, the house resolved that Sunday closure was henceforth lifted after 12 noon for medical stores, hotels, lodging, tours and travels, confectionaries, groceries and all perishable items including vegetables, fruits and fish. In this connection, the business community resolved to declare non-cooperation in all forms to those individuals and organizations that issue Sunday closure orders or impose forceful closure against the interest of the business community and consumers.
Another resolution stated that no individual or organization would be allowed to raid for expiry and MRP inside shops and godowns. “If any individual or organization have any grievances, the matter should be reported to the appropriate authority and action be initiated in a legal manner,” it added. In this connection, the house resolved to file FIRs against those self-styled individuals or organizations found collecting such tax or imposing penalty.
The house also unanimously resolved that all business establishments would be registered with DCCI in a time bound manner.
The resolution was read out by Sanjay Sethi, General Secretary, DCCI and unanimously passed by the house.
