DCCI under cloud as new President announced

DIMAPUR, MAY 21 (MExN): The matter regarding who will lead the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) got more complicated on Saturday with the election of a new president. The district administration through the Additional Deputy Commissioner released a press statement today informing of the new development. “Shri Hokivi Chishi was unanimously elected as President DCCI in the executive members meeting held on May 21 in presence of district administration in the conference hall of DC Dimapur”, stated a brief note from the ADC.
The ADC when contacted said that the meeting today was attended by 30 executive members of the DCCI. It was chaired by the ADC. The election of Hokivi Chishi was a unanimous decision of the executive body, the ADC added. Asked on the position of Kasheto Yepthomi in the DCCI, the ADC said that the earlier election of Yepthomi was done without the presence of the district administration as observer; therefore, it was an unofficial and unrecognized exercise. He seconded this by stating the election of the president was to be conducted with the district administration as observer.
The DCCI’s earlier team of office bearers was dissolved on April 19 to make way for the election of a new team and the adoption of a full-fledged constitution. Prior to this period it was headed by Kasheto Yepthomi as president. The lead up to the election of a new team of office bearers and president faced stormy weather over the choice of the next/new president.
The election of former president Yepthomi on May 1 last was not regarded as official by other members of the body stating it was conducted sans transparency and without the full consent of all the members.
Both sides still contended that they had the support of majority members. A few contradictory statements in the press later, a forum, under the nomenclature of ‘Frontal Business Organisations’, was formed on May 13. It resolved to take up the matter of the reformation of the DCCI with the district administration.
Yepthomi was contacted on his view on the day’s development. He declined to give any comments other than: “We’ll wait and watch… we’ll see what happens.”
