DCPU Chümoukedima & Mon hold awareness programme on child rights

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 24 (MExN): District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) in collaboration with District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Chümoukedima organised an awareness programme on Child Rights, Child Helpline 1098 and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao on November 22 at Unity Christian Higher Secondary School Diphupar. 

Speaking on the occasion Protection Officer “NIC” DCPU, Limughali Chishi, highlighted about the various Child rights and its significance, a press release received here stated. She also emphasised on ‘Good touch and Bad touch’ and how one should stand for his/her own rights in distressing situations. She sensitized the gathering on the various helpline services available for children and women in distress. 

District Mission Coordinator (DHEW), Ikali Wokhami, shared on the various issues of women & children. She explained to the students on menstrual hygiene, “the do's & don’t” and how one should break the stereotypes of menstrual cycle and normalize it. In addition, she also highlighted on the various schemes and provisions of women and girl child. Further in the program female students were distributed sanitary pads. 

Project Coordinator Child Helpline Chümoukedima, Mhaseto Rhakho, sensitised the students on the emergency helpline service 1098 and how one can reached out in distress condition. A project under the ministry of Women and Child Development “Mission Vatsalya”. He encouraged the students to make use of the emergency helpline service and that Child Protection is everyone’s responsibility. The program was chaired by Kivili Supervisor Child Helpline and Gwanisha Semy “Protection Officer” DCPU. Altogether 303 participants attended the program.

Meanwhile, the District Administration, Mon in coordination with the District Child Protection Unit Office, Mon conducted a one day consultative meeting with key stakeholders dealing with welfare, care and protection of children in celebration of Child Rights Week on November 20 in the Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall.

The programme was chaired by M Alem Konyak, PO(IC) DCPU, Mon while a welcome address was delivered by Sevehu Chuzho, DCPO, Mon. Samuel Konyak, SDO, Phomching on behalf of the District Administration delivered the key note address.

A presentation on Mission Vatsalya programme was given by Wanloi, LCPO, DCPU, Mon, followed by Ngepkhao S, Coordinator, Child Helpline, Mon and P. Hamkai Konyak, Director of John 3:16 on Legal Adoption. The programme highlighted on the mission, pillars and the impacts of Mission Vatsalya. Apart from this, detailed presentation of the structure and functions of Child Helpline was also delivered. 

In addition to this, the members present were also acquainted on the roles and procedures for Legal Adoption and its significance. After the presentation from the resource person, time was allotted for discussion and clarification from the participants where all the stakeholders took active participation in further understanding on the purpose of the programme.

The programme was attended by the officials from Police Department, Medical Department, District Legal Service Authority, Judiciary, Child Helpline, the DWO, CWC, Sakhi One Stop Centre, Child Care Institutions, and Chairmen from all the wards.
