The Nagaland state government has issued directive to begin preparations for the long delayed/proposed delimitation or redrawing of electoral constituencies. The state Election Department, in a directive dated June 4, has asked the Deputy Commissioners and the District Election officers, including the ADC & DEO, Pughoboto to prepare fresh statistical data and maps for the purpose of redrawing Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies.
It stated that the Delimitation Commission, which started functioning from March 6, 2020, “proposes to complete the work of delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies on the basis of 2001 census data… as expeditiously as possible” as per the provisions of the Delimitation Act, 2002.
It outlined parameters to be adopted and formats to be followed “which is considered proper and convenient for the purpose of describing the extent of Constituencies in the State.”
