DDCF, KUD, others condemn abuse of minors in Dimapur

Dimapur, November 9 (MExN): The Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum has strongly condemned the alleged abuse of three minor children from Mon district, by one Ronika Miachieo in Burma Camp, Dimapur.

In a press release issued Wednesday, the Forum stated that it was disheartened to learn of such incidences where minors are abused on the pretext of ‘giving them a better life.’ Lauding the Dimapur Police for their swift action in arresting the accused, it appealed to the concerned authorities to thoroughly investigate and book the culprits befittingly as per the law. It also requested the colony and village leaders to be vigilant to avoid occurrence of such unwanted incidents in the future, and prayed for speedy recovery of the victims, physically and mentally.

In a separate release, the offices of the Khiamniungan Union Dimapur (KUD), Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam Dimapur, Khiamniungan Students’ Union Dimapur jointly condemned the “inhuman act committed by Ronika, a self proclaimed Missionary and a resident of Burma Camp and her co-accused Amos Ezung” wherein three minors were allegedly subjugated to harsh treatment.

“In a just society where unity and  peaceful coexistence  is what we all strive for, such inhumane act and physical torture must be condemned by all and such persons deserves no rightful place in a civilized society,” the organisations stated in the release. The Unions urged the concerned department or law enforcing agencies not to turn deaf to the cry and hues of the people and award befitting punishment for the act committed by the accused.

It also expressed sympathy towards the minors and their family members and hoped that justice would be served at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the Wayen Union Dimapur and Wayen Union Kohima, through a joint statement, condemned the alleged abuse and said that the accused Ronica “In the pretext of being a Christian Missionary” lured the parents and relatives of the three minors of giving them quality education for free and raising them under her guidance.

However, contrary to her commitment, she along with her accomplice Amos Ezung tortured the minors mentally and physically over the years, it alleged.

“Their treatment towards the innocent children is inhumane and they cannot be forgiven under any circumstances. As a result, the children are undergoing untold miseries now,” the statement read.

Now that the culprits are in police custody, it expressed hope that the law enforcing authority, without much delay, would initiate stringent actions against them according to the provision of law.

Further, it demanded that the culprits should not be released on bail under any circumstances, prior to the fixed period of imprisonment. “In the event of releasing them on bail, we will retaliate and we shall not bear any responsibility for the possible consequences,” it added.
