The 1st Open Football Tournament kicked off at the DDSC Stadium, Dimapur on April 6. A total of 30 teams – 2 from Assam and 28 from Dimapur – are competing in the tournament organised by the Dimapur District Football Referee Association (DDFRA).
Dimapur Youth Club (DYC) took on 110 FC in a rain-battered inaugural match that saw 9 goals. 110 FC prevailed edging DYC 5-4. In the other match of the day, Hills United defeated Weekend Warrior’s 2-1.
The tournament, carrying a total prize purse of around Rs. 85,000, will conclude on April 18. While the champion and the runner-up will win Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 25,000, respectively, the organisers informed that the semi-finalists and outstanding individual performances will also receive incentives.
