DIMAPUR, APRIL 14 (MExN): The District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), Dimapur gave away artificial limbs to three beneficiaries on Thursday, April 14. The DDRC, located at the district hospital complex, is the only facility in the entire north east providing rehabilitation services to people with physical challenges and is supported by the Indian Red Cross Society, Dimapur branch. The artificial limbs are assembled here at the DDRC while the raw materials are imported from Geneva.
The programme today was attended by two representatives from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) – Yahia Alibi, deputy head of delegate and Achille, physical rehabilitation programme manager.
Addressing a small gathering, the deputy head of delegate, Alibi lauded the DDRC and the Red Cross personnel here for the determination displayed to get the facility functional and working. Alibi remarked that they are here not to announce a big project; rather expressed appreciation at the successful running of the facility. Anyone in need of the service can come forward or others can recommend those who are in need, he added.
Achille, the physical rehabilitation programme manager said the role of the ICRC will be to assist the district branch in whatever way possible. “If you need a centre, you need not only wait on human resource from the West, you can do it here.” The physical aids are assembled here by using local expertise. Dwelling on the use of prostheses, he stressed that physiotherapy is a must. “No one will be able to use prostheses without the aid of physiotherapy,” he said.
