Dimapur, August 26 (MExN): The Dimapur District Truck Drivers' Welfare Trade Union (DDTDWTU) has issued an urgent appeal to the state government and contractors to expedite the clearing of a landslide on National Highway 29 (Dimapur-Kohima). The landslide has severely disrupted traffic and left truck drivers stranded for over two weeks, causing significant hardships.

In a statement, DDTDWTU President Kuhoi Zhimomi highlighted the dire situation faced by truck drivers and their helpers, who have been stuck on the highway with perishable goods, leading to substantial losses. The union expressed deep appreciation for the support provided by various individuals and organizations, who have been assisting the stranded drivers with food, medicine, and other essentials.

On August 26, the union, in collaboration with truck drivers' associations from Bokajan (Assam), Hojai (Assam), and Senapati (Manipur), distributed essential supplies to those stranded. However, the union stressed that the landslide must be cleared immediately to prevent further damage to goods and alleviate the hardships faced by the drivers.

NH-29 is a critical route connecting several districts in Nagaland and is vital for the supply of essential commodities to both Nagaland and Manipur. The union has urged the state government and contractors to take swift action to restore the free flow of traffic on this crucial highway for the benefit of the general public.
