Debate held on Governor’s address at NLA session

Kohima, February 22 (MExN): Joining debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, Advisor for Power, Tovihoto Ayemi informed the members that Industries & Commerce Department has launched the National Scheduled Caste Schedule Tribe Hub (NSSH) and added that scheme provides professional support to SC/ST entrepreneurs under the central government procurement policy exhibition and trade fair, Vendor Development programmes, workshop/seminars and awareness and skill development and other various training programmes which shall be taken up in all the district headquarters.


He mentioned that in Tourism, the government has taken up several innovation concepts and ideas with the aim of promoting the state’s tourism in a sustainable manner, which will boost the economy of the state and will generate employment for the up-coming generation. He stated that the festival along with the Dzukou valley festival, Amur Falcon conservation week and festival at Doyang, The People’s Festival at Khezhakeno have the potential of making Nagaland a top tourist destination, which was witness in the hornbill festival 2018, there were altogether 37,397 domestic and 2702 foreign tourist.


Advisor Water Resources Namri Nchang joining on the motion of thanks added that the Government has accorded special importance to economic development of the backward areas. The Advisor also pointed out the main objective of the DUDA department has already established. ANGHYA, Market Linkage Hubs in all the district headquarter of Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire have created the ANGHYA brands and labels for packaging/marketing and linkages with outlets in and outside the state which is under process. Special tutorial Centres have been introduced for Class X students/Sainik School entrance test.


MLA Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu joining the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor's Address adviced to take steps to safeguard the interest of the Naga.


He congratulated the Health & Family Welfare department for doing a commendable job in implementing the Food Safety Act and asked to apply the same yardsticks to the needs of the people.


MLA Y.M Yollow said the efforts made by the government of India for ensuring that we move closer to a solution that is inclusive, honorable and acceptable to Nagas. He said that education is the most important sector for our generation, but we have so many seen and unseen problem in the education department. He also mentioned that Eastern part our state does not have B.Ed College and that in the 2017 scholarship issue, the Cabinet had setup a committee SIT but till now no report has been submitted. He also suggested that since mini hornbill is being celebrated in all the districts, we should celebrate hornbill only for five days.


Citing the examples of construction of astro-turf and various awards the departments have received, Minister for higher and technical education Temjen Imna Along said the treasury bench has revitalized some of the programmes and progress has been made. He said framework agreement is an example of the BJP party working for the Naga political solution.


MLA E.E Pangteang raised the issue of not providing timely scholarships to students and insufficient posting of teachers in the interiors. He expressed the need for construction of B. Ed college in the interior areas since the degree has been made compulsory recently.


Advisor Tourism Art& Culture, Khehovi Yepthomi highlighted the positive performance of the PDA Government which has brought good governance, accountability, transparency, development and economic growth. He also appreciated the Police department who came up with the unique initiatives of Tourist police by their performance during the Hornbill and further lauded the Art & Culture Department for taking the initiatives in Promoting and preserving the rich culture & Heritage.
