Dimapur, August 31 (MExN): The .president of the Naga Students’ Federation said tonight that the Nagaland Public Services Commission must declare for the public the firm responsible for setting and evaluating NPSC answer sheets. NSF president Mutsikhoyo Yhobu said the NPSC likes to ‘declare itself autonomous but when things go wrong, they blame the state government and now they are blaming the company.’
The NPSC yesterday invalidated and cancelled the recently notified results of NCS, NPS, NSS & Allied Services (Preliminary) examinations after reports of anomalies. The NSF chief said this is not the first time the commission has been caught with its socks down and has now blamed ‘the company.’ Nobody knows, even officials in the NPSC about it, he said and that the firm must be made known to the people.
The students’ leader also expressed support for a group of NPSC candidates who are pushing for a number of remedial steps from the commission. He said the NSF would be meeting either Tuesday or Wednesday to discuss the matter.
Also, the ‘transparency advocacy group,’ a group of candidates, today listed out a number of demands to the commission. The demands included re-evaluation of all answer scripts, disclosure of cut-off marks officially after every examination and disclosure of the marks scored by both successful and failed candidates.
They have also demanded that correction fluid must be allowed with prior approval of the invigilator; use of carbon copy answer scripts in the lines of JEE examinations; listing out in detail the errors committed in the evaluation process; “outsourcing of the functioning of NPSC examination procedure.”
The candidates have further demanded that the “the company” with which the NPSC “engaged which made a mistake” should be made public and then rectify the wrong answer “as there are still many anomalies detected.” Penalty should be imposed on the erring officials responsible for “this mess,” the candidates demanded.
The NPSC is urged to respond “with assurance regarding the demand we put forward within 15th days” and “ in case of ignorance the PIL will be initiated against NPSC and if the need arise we will initiate any sorts of course of action.”
