Parliamentary Secretary for Economics & Statistics, Tovihoto Ayemi on Saturday urged the youngsters to open their minds to the multiples of other career and jobs prospects besides government sector.

“Almost every Naga wants a government job and hardly gives any importance to other career options. We should open our minds to the multiples of other career prospects. When government is not in a position to provide employment to every individual, we need to defy the culture of seeking only government jobs and explore other avenues,” he said.

He was speaking as the chief guest during a career guidance programme organized by My Admission Guidance, a unit of Satwat Education Service Pvt Ltd for students of Class XII science stream today May 13 at Town Hall, Dimapur.

Tovihoto said such counselling seminars could show the right path to private enterprises even if one could not make it to the government sector.

He described career guidance as an important aspect of a student’s life which can make or break their career.

He pointed out the low level of awareness about career guidance in the Naga society and that students simply opt for any career by deciding on a surface level without identifying where their interests or talents lie. “The culture of going to career counsellors is almost nonexistent in our state except for attending occasional seminars like these which is very minimal,” he added.

He told the students guidance was of utmost importance if they wanted to see their career moving in the right direction. He Tovihoto said everybody wanted to be successful in life but do not get the right guidance to make the right decision at the right time and added that it was the right time for the students to make the right decision when experts and distinguished speakers in the field were present to guide you.

He expressed the hope that the programme under the theme, ‘Name Your Career’ would make a lot of difference for the future of those students present.

Guest of Honour, Dr. Akumtoshi urged students to understand their abilities and skill but also know their limitations at the same time.

He said one should be smart enough to look out for opportunities in the present scenario. Dr. Akumtoshi also told the students that it would be difficult to achieve success if they were not determined and lack hardwork.

Pradip Sengupta, Founder of XL Education and NA Harish, Founder of CEG Education were the counsellors who guided the students on their career.

Chairman of My Admission Guidance, Tovito Aye was also present during the programme.
