Dimapur, March 22 (MExN): Longkum Village Council has called for a total bandh on National Highway-61 on March 24 from 6am, demanding from the Delimitation Commission that Longkum, falling under 28th Koridang Assembly Constituency be retained with Alichen. NH-61 Mokokchung to Kohima passes through Longkum. No vehicular movement will be allowed. Medical services, magistrates on duty, the Media and military are exempted from the purview of the bandh. The village council is said to envisage the bandh to be indefinite if the commission fails to take action on the assurances in regard to retaining the area under the previous constituency.
Meanwhile, Western Angami Youth Organization has suspended its proposed highway blockade called for March 23 after ‘endorsement’ given by the five Associated Members of the Delimitation Commission to an ‘alternative’ proposal to the Working Papers III and IV for readjustment of assembly constituencies within Kohima district. A note from its executives also conveyed gratitude to individuals and organizations “who firmly stood by WAYO.”
