Demand for Aboi district gets louder, reaches CM

Dimapur, May 6 (MexN): The demand for Aboi district gained further momentum when a delegation of Aboi Division District Demand Committee (ADDC), on Friday, met Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu and submitted a “reaffirmation letter for the district demand”

Selected delegates from Aboi Division spearheaded by ADDC along with Minister of Rural Development CL John and Parliamentary Secretary Art & Culture Eshak Konyak, called upon the CM at his residence, ADDC Working Convener Konwang Konyak informed in a press note.

A ‘reaffirmation letter’ demanding upgradation of Aboi ADC HQ to District HQ was also submitted to the CM by the delegation, it added.

During a brief meeting, the Committee Convener W Wangyuh Konyak told the CM that the demand for upgradation to district HQ was a “public movement” and “a serious demand for upgradation, development and effective Administrative convenience,” it said. The letter also reminded the CM that Aboi Town (formerly Champang Town) was established in 1955 as Base Superintendent which was upgraded to Circle Officer in 1958. In 1978, it was upgraded to EAC (Extra Assistant Commissioner) and later to Sub Divisional Officer (Civil) in 1981. It was further upgraded in 1997 and presently administrated by an Additional Deputy Commissioner.

The proposal for upgradation of Aboi District remains unfulfilled even after it was taken up in a Cabinet Memo (NO. GAB-1/COM/189/2009) dated December 2011 along with Noklak, ADDC further pointed out in the letter.

Reiterating that it is a “public outcry” of the people of Aboi Division, ADDC expressed hope that “the present NPF led DAN government would fulfil the aspiration of the people/public demand of nearly 60,000 (sixty thousand) population.”
