Peaceful rally held as ADDC ‘awaits’ for a positive response from State Govt
Dimapur, January 10 (MExN): The public of Aboi today held a peaceful rally in solidarity to the demand for its upgradation as a district.
The rally, held at ADC’s office compound, Aboi Town on January 10, was attended today by around 8345 persons, with more people joining afterwards, informed a press release issued by the Aboi District Demand Committee (ADDC) Press Secy Phongnyei Changkhu.
The ADDC, in the release, noted that its quest for Aboi district started in 2008, reaching the State Cabinet through a memorandum in 2011, which placed Aboi at No.1 and Noklak at No.2, it said.
“Though the point seemed promising then, it was shattered when a pledge for future discussion never happened,” the Committee said.
The ADDC after a long wait resubmitted a petition, followed by reminder as well a referendum along with District profile and No Objection Certificate from Konyak Union and neighbouring tribes i.e. ENPO area, it added.
Noklak was given District status in December 2017 to the pleasure and satisfaction of all well wishers, including Aboi, the ADDC said.
In this regard, the Committee has submitted served an ultimatum to the State Government on January 2, for immediate requisition of Aboi district prior to any other in the list, on or before January 10.
Stating that the public of Aboi do not want confrontation with their own State Government least it was understood as ‘’the land of the irresponsible,’’ it insisted that “Aboi’s prerogative and the ultimatum be taken in top most priority.”
The committee is waiting for a positive response from the State Government, the ADDC stated.
“Failing which the Aboi public will take its own course of action, and the State Government will be responsible for, in both past and future actions,” it added. Economic blockade, bandh and strike are in the offing, it said.
Meanwhile, the ADDC asserted that Aboi district demand is “genuine and is supported strongly by all documents submitted in its feasibility report to the State Government.”
Aboi meet the criteria for district status in all areas such as population, attainment of township, administrative start-ups, topography, and viability, the report highlighted.
Even the radius maintained for the commuters to Headquarter, Aboi is in the heart of Konyak land, with connectivity to all major towns and areas, it pointed out.
The Committee further noted in the report that Aboi, bonded by two major rivers and other smaller river bodies has no water scarcity and all the requisite Government departments, besides other security agencies are present in the area. The ADDC also maintained that the demand of Aboi district “was not for partition of Konyaks but development.”
