Demand for TrueNat machine at Meluri sub-division

DIMAPUR, JULY 24 (MExN): The Confederation of Apoksah, Phoyisha & Prokiiungri Area has written to the Nagaland Chief Secretary requesting the installation of a TrueNat machine at Meluri sub-division at the earliest.

In a letter to the Chief Secretary, the confederation along with the Apoksah Range Public Organisation, Phoyisha Public Organisation and the Phokungri Area Public Organisation expressed concern that the State Government has not initiated any steps for installation of the TruNat Machine at Meluri Sub-Division under Phek district in spite of representations and petitions by various civil societies.

“As of now there are already around 120 returnees who have reached the Sub-Division and are under quarantine, but with no testing facilities the front line workers and we the public are undergoing untold hardship in tackling the pandemic,” it informed.

Positive cases have been detected from 3 different quarantine centres, it said and added that there is high risk of community transmission unless contact tracing is carried out and testing of suspected individuals done immediately to contain further spread.

The facility at Phek cannot cater to the urgent need of the people at far-flung areas of Meluri Sub-Division simply because of lack of readily available transportation means like ambulances, it pointed out. Moreover, the letter informed that even government official vehicle were not allotted to the Medical Officers, where they are finding difficulty in discharging their normal duties to run around and attend the returnees.

It added that acquiring samples, sending the same to Phek, and retrieving results has become a herculean task and takes dangerously longer time.  “In some cases returnees have received positive result only after completion of quarantine period and been sent home. Unless necessary steps are taken immediately we have a high chance of community spreading,” the confederation cautioned.
