Dimapur, January 28: Packed food items in daily diet are becoming very popular in all households lately. With an aim to make these food items available in the kitchen of Naga women using own resources, a special hands-on demonstration for oyster mushroom cultivation and value addition of some fruits and vegetables was held on January 27.
The demonstration was imparted to the housewives of jawans of the Nagaland Armed Police and representatives from the IRB Mahilas at the 1st NAP Auditorium organized by the Department of Horticulture and Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), GoI, Medziphema.
Dr. Lallan Ram, Director of CIH, Medziphema was the guest of honour for the inaugural programme, where he imphasised on the importance of cultivation of mushroom and preparation of pickles, squash and sauces and to incorporate these enterprises in domestic chores not only as daily source of nutrition but also to develop economic returns. Bendang Lemtur (IPS), DIG (Trg & Bdr) as special guest addressed the housewives of the jawans to utilize their spare time to work hard and generate income to support their families through participation in the programme.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Moa Walling, Deputy Director, SHN while Sentiyangla Pongener, Horticulture specialist, CIH, delivered welcome address. More than one hundred housewives of the NAP jawans and IRB Mahilas attended the day-long event.
Cultivation of oyster mushroom at home scale was demonstrated by HO Talimongba, Supervisor Imlitemsu and Lab Attendant Bithungo from the Department of Horticulture while preparation of chilli pickle, pineapple squash and tomato sauce was demonstrated by Manzar Hussain, Post Harvest Technologist and Yongkongtula, STA of CIH, Medziphema. To commemorate the 50 years of Nagaland Statehood, the training was conducted, where training kit for oyster mushroom cultivation and participation certificate were given to all the trainees.
