Demo on ‘value addition of fruits and vegetables’ conducted

Dimapur, May 9 (MExN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency, Dimapur (Niuland Block) in collaboration with KVK (ICAR), Jharnapani conducted a demonstration programme at Nihokhu village on May 7.   Resource person V. Kenny Rhetso, SMS (Home Science), KVK (ICAR) spoke and demonstrated on the topic ‘Value addition of fruits and vegetables.’ She illustrated on various methods of squash and juice making from different types of fruit and homemade preparation of pickle from vegetables.   The resource person also emphasized that value addition methods are simple and can be taken up anytime depending upon the seasonal fruits and vegetables available and also saves money from buying in markets which are mostly artificially flavoured and processed. Above all homemade preparations are organic and surplus fruits and vegetables from the backyard can be used from being wasted.

  She encouraged SHGs and women farmers to put on effort and take up such activities for side income as well as for self consumption. She then conducted step by step process of squash preparation from mango fruit and pickle making from vegetables.   The programme was chaired by Sentibenla, ATM (Niuland Block) and keynote address was given by Demalu Hasnusa, BTM where he highlighted on the various activities of ATMA and the role of SHGs in the society.
