Morung Express News Dimapur | December 11 The number of Dengue cases has risen to 134 as per the latest test results. These were out of around 750 suspected total samples tested. According to Dr Moa Jamir, Dimapur District Programme Officer, NVBDCP, 10 samples were tested positive out of 43 during tests conducted on December 3. Officially, there is no incidence of fatality in record except two reported Dengue-related deaths at two private hospitals in Dimapur. Dengue-carrying mosquitoes are said to subside as atmospheric temperature drops during the winter. Terming the latest detection (out of 43) as a “bit on the higher side”, Dr. Moa hoped that incidence would subside as the winter progresses. Meanwhile, it has been a week since daily fogging operations have been suspended. Dr. Moa though informed that it is continuing in a few selected areas, while adding that fogging will be stepped up if the frequency of detection does not subside. The fogging operations were further hampered by machines encountering problems. As per Dr. Moa, atleast 2-3 out of 5 serviceable fogging machines encountered “technical problems” and had to be put out of service for repairs. The main vehicle-mounted machine weighing some 300 kg is not in working condition for years now. Dr. Moa said that if it had been in working condition, it would have greatly aided fogging operations covering a wider area quicker and more intensively.
