Department embark initiatives for libraries

Mokokchung, June 22 (DIPR): The State department of Art and Culture has embarked on a new initiative to make libraries in the State worth its meaning. Under the new initiative the department is conducting training programme on Conservation and Protection of Books, Developing Reading Habit among the people and Application of Computer by rural librarian in selected places in the State.
Speaking at a training of Rural Librarian on application of computer, Library Software, at Institute of Communication and Information Technology, (ICIT) Mokokchung on June 21, Director Art and Culture, K. Kughazhe Yepthomi said that the department is making all efforts to uplift Rural Libraries and has a plan to upgrade their libraries by providing books and other infrastructure requirements. He also said one of the department’s objectives is to explore hidden talents among the rural people by undertaking various activities stating that every citizen is fit for undertaking creative activity.
The five day training, sponsored by National Library, Kolkota, is being attended by participants from four districts–Mokokchung, Mon, Zunheboto and Wokha. The training was inaugurated by Dr. Imlirenla Walling, President, Watsu Mungdang.
In her inaugural speech, Dr. Arenla said ‘in this age of technology a person without computer knowledge is like a handicapped. Hence, she called upon the participants to take part in the training attentively to make themselves action oriented’.
In his keynote address, Planning Officer, State Library, Dr. Tali Imsong said, the department is aiming at providing computer to all registered rural libraries with active support from funding agencies.
Principal, ICIT, Imza Naga in his speech thanked the Art and Culture department for selecting the Institute for the training programme and assured to work hand in hand in promoting application of modern information technology for the welfare of the State.
