Department of Social Welfare conducts training on UDID

Kohima, September 25 (MExN): Training on Unique Disability Identification (UDID) Project for Nagaland was held on September 23 at Hotel Japfu, Kohima with district authorities, medical officers and officials of Social Welfare Department (Nodal Department).
Sarah R Ritse, Secretary, Social Welfare while welcoming the trainers stressed on the need to develop close coordination among medical authorities and the Nodal Department for successful implementation of UDID and called upon all stakeholders to join hands in uplifting the disabled and not leaving the entire responsibility to the nodal Department alone.
In his keynote address, DK Panda, Under Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment highlighted on the present policy of the Government to certify a disability certificate that is applicable to all states of India, a press release from T Merangtsungba Aier, Director stated.
He further apprised the gathering that henceforth all disabled persons will be registered online to avail benefits, maintain database, systematize disability scheme and that the exercise should be completed within six months.
Diethono Nakhro, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Nagaland while delivering a short speech said the long awaited and much needed training to take off the project has finally come and further anticipated on the active involvement of all stakeholders to make it a great exercise and prioritize the said project in the state.
During training session, Gaurav K Gupta, National Project Coordinator emphasized on the implementation of Unique ID Project stressed on the need to register and avail disability certificate and enlightened the trainees that ‘Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016’ recognizes 21 types of disabilities, while a person with 40% disability may claim benefits under the Act.
At the UDID Software session, Dharmendra Chauhan, Project Manager Technical, took on hands-on training using dummy data on the software application thoroughly and meticulously.
At the training, many confronting and practical issues involved in the implementation of the proposed project along with queries were raised and deliberated upon. Further, all district authorities and its stakeholders were pressed upon to start implementation within a period of one month and be completed within a period of six months.
Earlier, the program was chaired by K Atoli Sema, Joint Director, Social Welfare and vote of thanks was proposed by Wango Langsym, Assistant Director, Social Welfare.
