Departments asked to submit report on implementation of RTI to NIC

KOHIMA, JULY 31 (DIPR): Nagaland Chief Secretary Lalhuma has directed all Departments and Public Sector Undertakings to submit report on implementation of Right to Information Act to the State Information Commission for the financial year 2006-07 on or before August 20.

The Chief Secretary said that under Section 25 of the RTI Act 2005, the State Information Commission shall, as soon as practicable after the end of each year, prepare a report on the implementation of the Act during that year and forward a copy thereof to the Government. “This is a statutory responsibility cast upon the Commission under the Act,” Lalhuma said.

All departments are therefore directed to provide requisite information on number of requests made to the department, number of cases where applicants were denied access to documents pursuant to the requests and other details under Section 25 of the Act to the Commission so that the Commission can prepare the report and lay before the State Legislative Assembly.

Lalhuma said the Commission may be compelled to furnish the details of non submission of report to the Assembly in case the departments do not furnish the details within the stipulated time.

Through another office memorandum, the Chief Secretary directed all the departments of the state government and Public Sector Undertakings to prepare a manual showing all Information about the Departments on or before August 31 and submit a copy each to the Chief Information Commission and the Principal Secretary P&AR Department. Under Section 4 of the RTI Act, all departments and Public Sector Undertaking are required to publish the manual within 120 days from the enactment of the Act and this proactive disclosure must be updated every year.
