Dept of H&FW seek public cooperation to make Nagaland a ‘Food Safe State’

DIMAPUR, JULY 10 (MExN): The Food Safety Cell under the Department of Health and Family Welfare has made a fervent appeal to citizens of Nagaland to come together and extend support and cooperation as a community in its future plans of action to mitigate the serious issue of unsafe food which unaddressed would have grave repercussions for the state both in terms of health and economy.

An appeal issued by the State Programme Officer (SPO) Food Safety Cell on Tuesday said the present situation where unsafe food has proliferated into the market consequentially exposing the public to serious health hazards calls for a sustainable and consistent action plan involving all stakeholders wherein the public must come forward to play a major role.

The continuation and success of this cause relies much on the concerted and unflinching commitment from all stakeholders towards making Nagaland ‘food safe state’ and not a dumping ground of unsafe adulterated food, it stated. It has assured that the department will do best to ensure that all types of food items available in the market are safe and healthy for human consumption.

In the meantime, the Food Safety Cell has expressed gratitude to the various departments, organizations and individuals for demonstrating outstanding example by coming out voluntarily showing genuine concern and support towards the cause.
