Mokokchung, June 14 (DIPR): A two-day orientation programme for field officers of the Department of Information and Public Relations began on June 14 at Hotel Metsuben (Tourist Lodge) Mokokchung. It was organized to orient field officers in the districts towards professionalism in dissemination of information and strengthen public relations. The programme was inaugurated by Parliamentary Secretary, Information and Public Relations, Economics & Statistics, R Tohanba.
Tohanba, in his inaugural speech urged upon the field officer to create a favorable link between the government and the public by giving due importance to publicity of various Government activities in the State. He said the IPR Mission statement clearly said that the department is committed to provide responsive and value-based information to the people and the media in its endeavour to serve the people. He also said there is a need to establish favorable attitudes towards government’s programmes and objectives to the people. He called upon the field officers to maintain ethics while they perform their duties. He appreciated the department for organizing the training program and expressed hope that this orientation programme would go a long way in serving the people of the state in a professional manner.
President, Mokokchung Press Club, Limalenden delivering his speech on ‘private media inter-relationship with IPR department’ said Media in Nagaland State is concentrated in Print media only and there is a need to move beyond print media to serve the people. He also thanked the IPR department for having cordial relations with media Houses in the State. He suggested to the department to consider giving accreditation to media persons based at Mokokchung saying there is only one person who was given accreditation by the government.
In his key-note address, Additional Director, Pausui Zeliang said the objective is to keep field officers of IPR department at pace with the fast changing world particularly in the field of information. He said department is trying its best to keep up with the advancement in the field of Media and Communication Technology and Human Resources Management. The programme was chaired by Deputy Director, IPR, L. Chubalepzuk Ao.
The two (2) day training is being conducted with Joint Director IPR Limawati, IEC Consultant NRHM, Nagaland Medevinuo Sakhrie and DPRO Kohima Asangla Imsong as resource persons. DPROs, SDIOs and IA’s from Mokokchung, Mon, Tuensang, Zunheboto and Wokha are attending the training.
