Truth and justice is being desecrated at two dimensions in Nagaland from the 1960’s to the present. At the first level, truth was desecrated by our own educated leaders when they sold away all our political truths and rights by asking for an Indian state under the 16 Point Agreement 1960. To begin with, the stand of the NNC and its Plebiscite of 1951 was a clear cut declaration that Nagas were not Indians and would not join the Indian union of 1947. The NNC stand was to be a nation among the nations. This stand was based on irrefutable facts of anthropology, history and political facts of Naga history in relation to its neighbors India and Burma.
This Naga political stand was never a demand for an Indian state or a demand for development of Nagaland by Indian money or even a shared sovereignty with India.
However as the whole nation stood fighting in defense of this truth and stand from 1954 to 1960, nineteen Nagas went to Delhi and asked for an Indian state and nullified all the sacrifices of the Naga people. War in all its horror had started in Nagaland from 1954 onwards. And as it raged on for 6 years into 1960, Nagas then had no sophisticated weapons to defend itself from India’s onslaught. (As for procurement of arms from East Pakistan, the first batch of the Naga Safe guard went only in 1962.) The casualty on the Naga side was therefore in the range of over I lack Naga deaths and the burning to ashes of over 65 entire villages. But Phizo had reached London on 12 June 1960 and was scheduled to meet the World press on July 26, 1960. He had compiled all the then existing atrocities in a booklet entitled: “The Fate of the Naga people: an Appeal to the world.”On the home front, our valiant Naga warriors had been able to withstand India’s massive invasion forces for 6 desperate years- 1954-1960. But despite such heroic achievements, our own educated Nagas stabbed Phizo and all Nagas from the back by signing the 16 Point Agreement on July 26, 1960. This document was signed on the same day that Phizo met the international Press and presented the Naga case to the world.
Truth was thus trampled and desecrated on July 26, 1960. (For a detailed account of all these facts, see: “Uncovering the political lies that have covered Indo-Naga history from the 1940’s to the Present”- Authored by the same writer of this article).
However an even uglier second form of desecrating the truth in Nagaland has been going on from the 1960’s to the present. This desecration is now taking the form of exploiting the deaths of all our fallen heroes by forming many parallel governments opposed to the only Naga mandated political institution (NNC) and the only Naga mandated Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN). Through extortion of the public and all sorts of nefarious activities, some of our own so called national leaders are building their economic futures right before our own eyes. They are all exploiting the very good name and history of Naga nationalism and are amassing wealth in the name of the Naga national cause.
On top of this, there are again, those breeds of “Naga opportunist” who will raise some very pertinent issues relating to corruption in the Nagaland state machinery. When the public react and raise a hue and cry over these social evils, the existing government instead of bringing the guilty to justice, acts by paying off these Naga blood suckers huge amounts of money or contract offers and silence the agitating leaders. This has been our story for the past so many years.
As for corruption in Nagaland today, it is a disease that has contaminated almost every government employee right from Chowkidars and Peons to Secretaries and Directors. The disease spreads further to state MLA’s and Ministers right up to bureaucrats and Central Ministers in Delhi. To expose all these corruptions, one will have to do some research works and bring out a very voluminous book incorporating all the departments of the Governments both at the state level and the Central levels. Even I for one know quite a few things about these corruption practices and their modus operandi. But since I do not believe in this state of Nagaland, I will not waste my time going into further details.
