Kohima, October 9 (MExN): The Government of Nagaland has designated all officers and ranks of Nagaland Police in 14-Southern Angami-1 (ST) and 60-Pungro - Kiphire (ST) Assembly Constituencies, as election related officials for the purpose of Section 28 A of the Representation of People Act 1951, with effect from the date of notification for election till the completion of the bye-election process.
According to a notification issued through the DIPR, the police officials, from Director General/ Additional Director General/DIG/Commissioner of Police, all Police officers below them, including Home Guard, Village Guards, who are in any way, involved in election related arrangement and are performing duties in connection with the conduct of the bye-elections, are by law, officers of Election Commission, being deemed to be on deputation to it, and are subject to its control, superintendence and discipline and as such are answerable to the Election Commission for any acts of commission or omission on their part while performing any election related duties.
