
Quality of Nagaland flowers is of international standard

Before introduction of Horticulture Mission in the state, floriculture was merely confined to kitchen gardens in small patches. But with the active support of Technology Mission for the North East, floriculture activity has been taken up commercially in the state under the farmers’ field through various fund allocated.
This was stated in the annual administrative report of the horticulture department tabled by parliamentary secretary for horticulture Neiba Kronu on the floor of the House today.
The report said that cultivation of flowers on commercial scale was initiated from the year 2004-2005, and it is now recognized as one of the main thrust areas for trade within and outside the state.
The progress of business in the flower sector has been very rapid as well as very satisfactory, the report said adding that the quality of flowers in the state is of international standard and Naga fresh flowers is a well- known and prestigious name among the floriculture world today.
Commercial cultivation of flowers has been flourishing, opening a huge prospect for state to emerge as a major producer of fresh cut flowers.
Holding of annual flower shows in the state is also one of the major events of the department, it said adding that beside opening avenue for display and exhibit of choicest array of flowers and greens the show serves as a window of buyers and sellers, and holding of seminars and workshops by bringing in policy makers and re-known floriculture both from within and outside the country, thus serving as a vehicle for creating publicity and interests in the people’s mind to take up floriculture on commercial basis, more importantly, as an alternative means of earning one’s livelihood.
Tourism dept concerned about climatic change
Tackling the global climatic changes, the state has never before experienced any extreme climatic conditions in the past- be it in winter or summer, according to the annual administrative report of the tourism department tabled by minister for tourism and art & culture E.E. Pangteang in the assembly session here today.
To minimize this natural phenomenon, the report said the department has taken the initiative to plant ornamental trees in some tourist spots, lodges, resorts, parks and in all important public places so as to mitigate climate change and create awareness.
Nagaland lies in a highly disaster prone area, people have to be mentally and physically prepared to face any such natural calamity and catastrophe, the report said adding as such the directorate of tourisms conducted a seminar cum awareness programme on “Disaster Preparedness and Management” at Kisama for its staff and officers in order to be fully prepared in the event of such unfortunate happening taking place.
Rules and reports laid
Minister for planning & coordination, evaluation, geology & mining T. R. Zeliang today laid the Nagaland Petroleum & Natural Gas Rules, 2012 on the floor of the House. The rules shall extend to the whole of Nagaland and it shall come into force with effect from the date of its publication in the official gazette of Nagaland.
Later, parliamentary secretary for power C. Kipili Sangtam also laid the Ist Annual Report- Financial Year (2011- 12) of the Nagaland Electricity Regulatory Commission, Nagaland Electricity Regulatory Commission (Standards of performances for the distribution and transmission of the licensee regulations, 2012 and Nagaland Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC (Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum and Electricity Ombudsman) Regulations, 2012.
Parliamentary secretary for housing, treasuries & account Vikho-o Yhoshu also laid the Nagaland Engineering Service (Group- A and Group- B) Rules 2012 of the Works & Housing department (Establishment Branch) and Nagaland Public Works and Accounts Rules, 2012.
Further, parliamentary secretary for agriculture Dr. Benjongliba laid a copy of the Nagaland Agricultural Produce Marketing (General) First Amendment Rules, 2006.
68,874 applicants on live register of employment exchange
Altogether. 68,874 number of applicants remaining on the live register of employment exchanges as on December 31, 2012 in Nagaland. This was stated in the annual administrative report of the Department of Employments & Craftsmen Training tabled on the floor of the house today by parliamentary secretary Dr. Nicky Kire. Out of 68, 874, the number of male stands 43,450 and female at 25,424. Post graduate constitute 3,315, graduates- 17,654, pre-university- 15,067, matriculate – 12, 463 below metric- 19,062, degree (tech) – 640 and diploma- 676.
