Development of small and medium towns to continue

Kohima, March 16 (MExN): Nagaland Governor Shyamal Datta today announced that the State government will continue to carry the Integrated Development of Small and Medium towns during 2006-2007 as well. This programme has been introduced for the first time during 2005-06, where funds have been provided for the development of small and medium towns. During 2005-06, 57 administrative headquarters have been covered.

Datta in his address at the budget session stated that the National Urban Renewal Mission was launched during 2005-06 and Rs. 21.60 crores have been allotted to the state during 2006-07.

The state capital Kohima has been selected for coverage and various infrastructural and other developmental programmes, like improvement of roads sanitation, solid waste disposal, landslide protection, street lighting, vehicle parking, city centre, etc. will be taken up, Datta said.

A City Development Plan for Kohima, incorporating a 7 years perspective plan, is under active preparation under the programme.

The special development programme, involving 33 projects with a total cost of Rs. 45 crores has recorded very good progress. Till date, 26 projects valued at Rs. 35.97 crores have been sanctioned, Datta said.
