Phase III starts today with half-day total shutdown of business establishments, Silent protest

Tuensang, June 19 (MExN): The Chang Wedoshi Setshang (CWS), or the Chang Students' Conference, will kick off its third phase of indefinite agitation pertaining to the relocation of DIET in Tuensang District with silent protest and half-day total shutdown of business establishments on June 20.

The third phase will start on Monday with a programme at Clock Tower, Tuensang from 9 AM, followed by a silent protest at all the MLAs’ (Member of the Legislative Assembly) residences from 10 AM to 12 noon, informed a press release from the CWS.

From 1 PM, the entire business establishment in Tuensang Town will be shut-down completely, it stated.

However, public and vehicular movement will be exempted, it added.

The apex Chang students’ body further stated that Day-2 of the third phase would include a total bandh in Tuensang town on June 21.

The CWS started the first phase of its agitation on June 13, including sealing off the offices of the District Institution of Education and Training (DIET) Tuensang on June 13. In the second phase starting June 15, all Government offices located in Tuensang town were sealed.

However, accusing the State Government of turning a  “deaf ear” and showing lackadaisical attitude towards its demand so far, the Conference announced Phase III of its agitation on Sunday.

The Conference “will continue the indefinite agitation pertaining to the relocation of DIET institution at Tuensang District,” stated CWS President, C Pongsu and General Secretary,  Ebou Naset in the press release.

“It is not the first time that the district was suffered or is suffering to obtain the due rights since the inceptions of Nagaland- statehood. Hence, the Conference shall not remain silent over the matter of deprivation in regards to developmental opportunities of the District,” it added.

The CWS earlier on May 12 served an ultimatum to the Commissioner, Nagaland in regards to the acquisition of land for relocation of the DIET “within 15 days from the date of the ultimatum served.”
