A different approach needed for Nagaland

There is no doubt that the country wide lockdown has reduced the transmission of Covid-19 in highly pandemic and highly populated areas but I believe that the situation in Nagaland is totally different and we need different approach to mitigate this threat.

It’s important that we secure our borders and big towns like Kohima and Dimapur but ours is a small state with sparse population and so the people in villages and districts without state or international border or significant threat should no longer be subjected to stringent measures. Because doing so will not only affect the efficiency and morale of our work force such as Medical and Police personnel but it will severely affect the normal life and the common men, children and students are going to bear the brunt of it.

It is important for the state to chart our own strategy instead of blindly following the guidelines some of which are not a priority in our context. We are thankful to God that we do not have a single case so far but sadly we are already using our resources to the limit and for how long we can continue in this mode? The most important thing for us is to create more awareness and strengthen our surveillance activities and here our churches, towns and village administration can also play big roles instead of totally relying on the departments. I would request our state leaders and experts to come with some strategies to protect our people from this dreadful disease and also bring about a semblance of normalcy in the state without delay.
