PWD says contract awarded, only paper formalities pending
Kohima, October 26 (MExN): Reacting to the news coverage about the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee’s protest rally highlighting bad road conditions in the arterial commercial centres of Dimapur on October 25, the Nagaland Public Works Department informed that bureaucratic process was on to start repair works.
The Congress had staged a public rally in Dimapur on October 25 deploring the poor condition of the busy GS Road starting from the Dhobinulla junction to the railway dockyard and other roads linked to it.
On October 26, the Chief Engineer, PWD (National Highways), issued a “clarification” stating that the Department had pursued with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) for repairing the road in question, which forms part of NH 36.
According to the statement, “With the limited resources available within its discretion, the Department has been and is trying to maintain the roads especially earmarking priority areas.” Towards this end, it said that sanction has been received from the MoRTH to repair a 6.88km stretch of NH 36, falling within Dimapur. As stated in the statement, the stretch covers Nagaland Gate (Dillai side) — PWD Road – Midland – GS Road – Station Road – Tragopan junction.
It informed that the “Tender process” was on and “Letter of Award (LoA)” already issued on October 22, 2021. It did not specify to which firm, only stating it was an “EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) Contract.”
After completing the paper formalities, it said that the Contractor will be directed “to immediately start the work.”
It added, “The Department is committed that the work for improvement of this stretch of road is carried out as per the specifications and time period stipulated for completion.”
