To give an equal playing field to the intending candidates contesting under 26 Alonglengden Assembly Constituency, the Dilong Ward Council today organized a mass declaration programme at Dilong Community Hall, here today. The two candidates – Imtikumzuk (NDPP) and Toshipokba (NPF) – arrived with a limited number of supporters and were given ten minutes each to air out their election agendas and manifestoes.
Dilong Ward is one of the biggest wards in Mokokchung town and it is one among the four urban wards that fall under 26 Aonglenden A/C besides three villages – Ungma, Settsü and Kupza.
The Dilong Ward Council, Chairman, I Tia Soyah, while speaking at the programme, declared that the Council was holding the mass declaration programme in order to save time, labour and money for the candidates. He also said that the programme enables the voters in Dilong ward to see the individual capabilities and make a conscious judgment while casting their votes.
While commenting on the candidates who would represent the constituency, Soyah said that both the candidates are capable, men of few words but capable of initiating actions; therefore, he urged the electorates in Dilong ward to choose who would best represent them in a free and fair manner.
The ward chairman also had words of caution for the intending candidates and the political parties. He said that the bringing/distributing intoxicants in the colony, violence or bringing of ‘outsiders’ during the polling day would not be tolerated. He warned that stern action would be initiated against the erring party or individuals. But, unlike most other colonies where only one ‘Kimen’ (or camp) is allowed per candidates, the Dilong Ward Chairman allowed the opening of three camps – one main camp, a youth camp and a women camp – in the ward. However, he cautioned the workers to be peaceful and not to create trouble, especially to the students who are busy preparing for their examination.
A Dilong Ward Council that the decision to hold the ‘common platform and mass declaration’ was resolved at a Ward General Meeting on October 19, 2016.
Altogether there are more 16 polling station; Dilong ward with nearly 1700 voters has two polling stations.
