Dimapur: 1 killed, 3 injured in accident

One person was killed and three injured when the vehicle they were travelling in fell into the Chathe River in the early hours of February 12.

While one person reportedly died on the spot, the injured were rushed to Christian Institute of Health Sciences & Research, Dimapur for medical treatment.

As per official sources, the police were informed at around 1:00 am that a vehicle had fallen off the Chathe bridge. The vehicle, a Mahindra Thar, was travelling from Shillong to Imphal when the accident took place.  

According to an update from the PRO, Dimapur Police, after the information was received at traffic control-II from Chümoukedima Police Check gate, a duty party rushed to the spot and found that the vehicle had rolled down from the turning just on the edge of the bridge and was found near the river.

“There were 4 occupants in the vehicle (all male, 3 were found seriously injured and 1 was found dead on the spot,” the PRO informed. 

The names of the injured passengers have not been released however; the update informed that the deceased has been identified through his ID card as Baspatimayum Roshan Sharma (20). 

Meanwhile, sources also said the rescue and recovery operation took about 2-3 hours, and the cause of accident is yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
