Dimapur, November 17 (MExN): Dimapur 24/7 organized a workshop on education, mental health, and menstrual hygiene at the Grace Assembly of God Church in Diphupar ‘B’ village, 5th Mile, on November 15. The event, themed "Menstrual Hygiene is Empowerment," was attended by students, women, and community members from the local area.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness on the significance of mental well-being, educational perspectives, and menstrual hygiene. Under the leadership of Annie Jain, Chairperson of Dimapur 24/7, the event also included the distribution of sanitary pads, razors, and soaps to attendees. The sanitary pads for the initiative were sponsored by Madan Sharma & Co. and Falguni Enterprise.
During the session, Annie Jain emphasized the need to address mental health and menstrual hygiene openly. She pointed out the importance of breaking taboos around these issues to empower women and girls. “Menstrual hygiene is not just about access to sanitary products; it’s about dignity, empowerment, and creating environments where women feel safe and supported,” Jain said. She further stressed that menstrual hygiene is essential in breaking the cycle of stigma and ensuring better health outcomes, allowing women to focus on their education and ambitions without the discomfort or shame associated with menstruation.
Jain also spoke about the importance of mental health awareness and urged the participants to prioritize their emotional well-being. “Mental health is integral to overall health, yet it is often overlooked. By creating understanding and reducing stigma, we can create a supportive network where people feel comfortable seeking help,” she added.
In addition, Jain highlighted progressive measures adopted by certain Indian states, such as Kerala, Bihar, and Odisha, which have introduced policies allowing women under 55 years of age to take leave on the first or second day of their menstrual cycle. This policy applies to both government and private sector employees, making these states pioneers in such initiatives.
Uday Kumar Sah, an executive member of Dimapur 24/7, addressed the importance of education. He encouraged the attendees to broaden their perspective on education.
