Dimapur, July 11 (MExN): Dimapur District observed World Population Day 2024 at UPHC Duncan Bosti under the theme “Healthy Timing & Spacing of Pregnancies for Wellbeing of Mother and Child”.
Dr R Chielie Jamir, MO UPHC Duncan Bosti sensitised to the participants on the importance of family planning focusing on the theme healthy timing and spacing for the wellbeing of the mother and child. She emphasised that at least three years gap should be kept between pregnancies. This gap will allow the mother’s body to recover fully, reduce the risks of anemia, nutrient depletion and lower the risk of pregnancy complications. And for the child, it improves the chances of healthy developments, lower the risk of birth defects and low birth weight. Spacing also gives the family the opportunity to give adequate care to the existing children, allows financial planning and stability, and also reduces stress on family resources.
Dr B Sashi Jamir, MO UPHC Duncan Bosti sensitised on the effectiveness and simplicity of male vasectomy. He stressed on the importance of responsibility sharing in family planning and also reduces the burden of using short-term contraceptive methods on both the partners. He stated that family planning is the responsibility of both the partners and male participation will reduce the burden on female partner. Male participation in family planning will also contribute immensely to the efforts of population control in the country.
Dr Majasilui Kamei, MO i/c UPHC Duncan Bosti highlighted the various compensation packages for accepting Family Planning; permanent and temporary methods. The programme was chaired by Toshinaro, Urban Consultant, NUHM Dimapur.
