Dimapur Bangali Samaj cultural contest ends

Dimapur, June 26 (MExN): Dimapur Bangali Samaj’s annual four-day cultural competition came to a close on June 24 at Shree Shree Ram Thakur Sevashram premises.  

PB Acharya, Governor of Nagaland was the chief guest, while Kavita Acharya, wife of the Governor and Sushil Kumar Patel (IAS), Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur were special guests at the closing ceremony.  

A press release from DBS informed that the Samaj felicitated leaders of different communities and prominent personalities of Dimapur. The community leaders and organization also felicitated the Governor and his wife.  

The Governor in his address dwelt on the joy of doing something fruitful for the people of the State. “Nagaland, which still lags behind in many areas economically till date needs to be looked after by the Non-Nagas who have reaped the fruits of economic development,” he noted. Acharya insisted on people learning two more languages apart from their mother tongue, Hindi and English. He also made an offer of having tea with him at Raj Bhavan if there were such people who fitted in the above criteria, according to the release.  

Praising the Bengali Samaj for having organized such a beautiful cultural programme, he appealed to them to use the occasion for the well being of the downtrodden and the deprived. He rued the fact that many educated people also were unaware of the various governmental schemes for the poor, let alone the poor. “It is incumbent upon the rich and the privileged to come forward and be a shareholder in the progress of the nation,” the Governor added.

  Acharya felicitated 27 rank holders in the last HSLC and HSSLC exams belonging to different communities from Nagaland. Five judges for various cultural competitions, who had arrived from Kolkata, were also felicitated by him. Meanwhile, prizes for various competitions were distributed to the successful artists by the women wing of Dimapur Bangali Samaj.  

Earlier in his welcome address, Advocate Kamala Kanta Paul, president, DBS referred to various activities promoted by the Governor such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, skill development, and raising the standards of education. Paul also applauded the Governor for being so energetic and active at such an advanced age, the release said.
