Cultivating humility and resolve to do the right thing and believing in God would define an individual, said the director General of the Nagaland police. Speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Dimapur Changki Senso Telongjem (DCST) on October 2, Longkumer recalled his own experience stating, “I became proud of my position yet I realised I am nothing in front of God.”

Notwithstanding one’s dreams and aspirations as individuals, he said that surrendering oneself to God would open doors that would have otherwise remained shut.

He said that people have a tendency to become too confident in one’s abilities yet without the grace of God nothing is possible.

Terming the time when one is neither too old and nor too young as the “primetime” of life, he said that it is also a time when challenges of all a hues come calling. Confronting the challenges and resolving them would normally fall on the shoulders of those people like him and many others like him, he said, while adding that the challenges must be tackled with conviction. To the Changki youths, who are on way to go through the prime of life, he expressed confidence that the present lot of youths have the calibre to take on the challenges.

“Be resolute, never lose heart. Even if you suffer humiliation, be strong. Human qualities are tested by the furnace of humiliation,” he said.

Calling for unity as one people irrespective of differences, he said, “Let us be morally strong as to face the future as one people.”
