Dimapur district administration issues guidelines for LS elections

DIMAPUR, MARCH 9 (MExN): The Dimapur district administration has issued various orders and guidelines to be followed, in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls in the state.

A press note from the Dimapur Deputy Commissioner, N Hushili Sema informed all heads of offices/departments, under Dimapur district, to liase with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and the District Election Officer, Dimapur to ensure smooth and efficient communication and correspondence. The concerned officials have also been directed to submit the detail of the nodal officer, including name, designation, contact number and email address, on or before March 13.

The Dimapur DC, in a separate order, informed the public of Dimapur district that movement with licensed arms is prohibited under Section 144 of the CrPC. The order directed that all licensed arms should be deposited at the nearest police thana. It further stated that this order will be in force till the election process is over and cautioned that any violation of this order will lead to the arms being impounded.  

Concurrently, the District Election Officer for Dimapur, in a press release, has informed that any offer of cash, liquor, gift items or free food to the electors during the election process is considered as a bribe. It cautioned that both the person offering and accepting such bribes are liable for punishment with an imprisonment of up to one year and a fine.

It stated that flying squads and surveillance teams have been formed to keep watch over such activities and to check movement of items meant for inducement of electors during the election process.
