The Dimapur District Football League (DDFL) will kick-off from October 11. This year’s edition, a rebranding of 2020’s Dimapur Division League (DDL), is sponsored by Okusa Toyota and will feature 12 teams playing ‘home and away’ games spread over a period of one and a half months.
Last year’s DDL champion- Diphupar SC will not play this year, while runners-up Chekiye United is one of the 12 teams.
As per the organizer, Elite Group, the 12 teams will be placed in two pools for the group/league stage. The top two teams from each pool will make it to the semi-finals. Each semi-finalist will be pitted against its opponent twice in home and away games and the two teams, which prevail, will face-off in the final for the Okusa Toyota DDFL 21 title.
The league will witness as many as 65 matches in 12 venues with each team having or adopting a home ground. In the group stage, each team will face one opponent twice (home and away) implying 10 games for each of the 12 teams.
The group stage will continue till November 20 and will be followed by the finals. It was informed that the entry fee to the DDFL per team was Rs 15,000 along with an additional Rs 3000 to the Dimapur District Football Association.
The prize money for the champion team is Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh for the runners-up.
Asked to comment on the future prospect of the DDFL, an official of one the teams said, “The future is good for this league. We have to keep the faith.”
