
Dimapur, December 9 (MExN): The District Excise, Dimapur duty party manning the excise check gate at Chümoukedima around 7:30 pm on December 8 “based on an intelligent tip off” intercepted a truck bearing Regd No AS01CC 4206 bound for Imphal, Manipur.
“On frisking the vehicle the duty party recovered 489 cases of assorted IMFL which was concealed beneath bags of cement,” T Arilong Longkumer, Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition, Dimapur reported in a press release.
In this connection, one Kamrul Islam, 25 years, resident of New Showuba village Dimapur, Nagaland, P/a Baruating Howraghat Karbi Anglong, Assam was arrested and booked under the relevant sections of the NLTP Act 1989.
Longkumer said that this is the second instance of large IMFL contraband seizure from the excise check gate Chümoukedima in the month of December itself.
“With the approach of festive season, it is anticipated that illicit shipment of liquor consignments may see a spike in intensity and frequency towards which excise authority is putting all efforts to heighten its surveillance and vigil against such criminal activities,” he stated.
The duty party who made the recovery was led by Allen Jami AIE, Tsuknung H/Constable, TK Medom lady H/Constable, Constables Akahoto, Khekavi, Thejong, Khalenthong, Tsathongli, Mathna and lady constable Kiyerangzaile.
