Dimapur has new 10 MVA transformer

Dimapur, August 24 (MExN): The 10 MVA transmission equipment transported from Mokokchung as stand-in has been assembled. The reassembling was completed two days ago, sources in the SLDC of Nagarjan have disclosed.

The process was immediately followed by heating and filtration of the oil, which is currently ongoing. The process will continue for at least another 6-7 days. After the process is complete, workers will start putting on the cables and conductors making way for the next phase – charging the transformer. The charging process is likely take some more days as it is told that the machine is quite old and was left idle for quite some. Dimapur and Peren districts will get some degree of relief if the ‘proxy’ transformer is successfully put into circuit.

However, at this stage it cannot be predicted whether the transformer will work without hitch when put into circuit, a source said. After the charging phase is done with, workers will have to first conduct test runs to get an idea of the machine’s load-carrying capacity or simply its strength. Only then workers can tell whether the transformer will be able to withstand the projected transmission load. For the time being, consumers can only hope the machine holds itself till such time the damaged 20 MVA transformer is repaired and put into service, or the highly anticipated 100 MVA transformer reaches here.
