Dimapur to host National Taekwon-Do Championship

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 6 (MExN): Nagaland’s consistently encouraging performance in Taekwon-Do has been rewarded with Dimapur being chosen as the venue for the 26th National I.T.F. Taekwon-Do Championships. The national tournament is scheduled for December 26-30 this year. The state’s Taekwon-Do team finished third, behind overall champions Delhi and Karnataka at the recently concluded 25th National I.T.F. Taekwon-Do Championships held at New Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium from December 22-26 last. Goa finished behind Nagaland. Nagaland won 5 Gold, 5 Silver and 11 Bronze medals in sparring and power breaking categories, thereby continuing a glorious tradition achieved during the last 6 years. Akha Yimkongniken was awarded the best team coach. The team performed well during the five day tournament even as Nagaland’s Israel G. Xuivi, 4th Dan and Sujit Roy, 3rd Dan took part as referee and umpire. Master B. Rajendran, 7th Dan Technical Director T.A.I. and International Instructor Abdul Rieman, 6th Dan from U.A.E. Dubai conducted the technical and umpire seminars to the officials.
