
Dimapur, February 25 (DIPR): Deputy Commissioner & principal census officer Dimapur Maongwati Aier, along with other census nodal officers visited the Central jail and sub-jail in Dimapur to enumerate the inmates for the phase II of Census operation 2011.
In both the jails, the DC interacted with the convicts and discussed about different cases involving their trials. The jailers and in-charge of both the police stations briefed the DC on various issues such as maintenance, number of convicts undergoing trials and those jailed for a lifetime.
Exhorting the inmates of Central jail, the DC highlighted on why it was important to be counted and urged them to cooperate with the census nodal officer and to provide full accurate details.
Altogether there are 40 inmates at Sub-jail, which include 12 females and 28 males. Number of convicts/inmates in Central Jail are 247. Number of under trial -136, convicts-95 and National Security Act (NSA) detenues-43. One person with disability was also enumerated. Some of the NSA detenues are from UP, Bihar, Tripura, Bengal, Assam and Manipur. Although they belong to other states, convicts were arrested in Dimapur and detained in central jail Dimapur. Maximum numbers of convicts were charged under Narcotics drugs and prohibited substance act (NDPS).
Also taking note of the presence of Churches in both the jails, the DC made a fervent call to the convicts to fellowship and come out of the jail reformed after completing their terms/sentences. Appreciating the maintenance of the surroundings at central jail, the DC called upon the inmates to keep maintaining the clean surroundings. The DC was accompanied by CEO, DMC & town census charge officer Nikashe Sumi, EAC & census charge officer Dimapur Sadar Dr. Tino Jongshi Chang and EAC Chumukedima & charge officer Enok Bumchen Phom
Meanwhile, the DC informed that biometrics have already been received for all the districts and will be starting during the last week of March. The phase II of the all India census enumeration would conclude on February 28 midnight. Further, from March 1-5 population of homeless people in Dimapur will be enumerated in and around Dimapur town.
