Dimapur MCC Committee members meeting held

Dimapur, January 19 (DIPR): Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome presided a meeting of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) Committee members of Dimapur district on January 18 in the Conference Hall of DC Dimapur.  

Yhome reminded that the main purpose of MCC Committee was to oversee whether Code of Conduct is being followed by the various political parties in order to ensure smooth, free and fair elections. He expressed gratefulness to the GBs, representatives of various political parties and MCC Committee members for extending their cooperation thus far and reminded, “The real challenge will start now and you have to stick to the MCC.”  

Referring to the discussions of the State Level MCC Committee, Yhome urged the representatives of political parties to convey the message to the intending candidates highlighting that No feasting should take place and no youth camps can be set up except for the party office; No government vehicles are allowed to be used for campaigning purposes; Not to indulge in corrupt practices including bribery; undue influence, systematic appeal by the candidate or agents to vote or not to cast votes; Information to be given to the district administration prior to processions streets, meetings in public places where such situation may affect normal movement and traffic congestion. He further reminded that campaigns have to stop 48 hours before the schedule time for election.  

In the meeting, ADC Dimapur Elizabeth Ngully also the RO Dimapur informed for submission of list of bogus/absentees/death voters at the earliest so that the same could be marked in the electoral roll. She also informed that voters list would be distributed in January 23, 2017. Further, she informed that polling agents can come and attend the training on 20th January to be held at Dimapur Government College in order to familiarise themselves and avoid confusions on the polling day.
