Meetei community from Dimapur at the rally on May 2 demanding inclusion of their community in the ST list.

DIMAPUR, MAY 3 (MExN): In solidarity with the Scheduled Tribe (ST) demand of the Meetei community in Manipur, the Dimapur Meetei Council (DMC) in collaboration with the World Meetei Council organized a rally in Dimapur on May 2 on the theme, “Peace for Manipur should not be at the cost of Meetei’s survival.” The rally was organized to appeal the Manipur Government to send a recommendation for ST status to the Centre at the earliest.
Media cell, DMC in a press note stated that a Manipur High Court had on April passed an order to the Manipur Government to send a recommendation to the Centre for inclusion of the Meetei community in the ST list within four weeks. However, it lamented that the state government was yet to respond on the recommendation till date. The community asserted that the ST demand is a constitutional right to protect their land and political space.
