Dimapur, October 19 (MExN): Dimapur Meküli Shisashir Telungjem (DMST) celebrated its silver jubilee under the theme, “Telungjem nung terenlok” (Progressing in unity) at World Impact Community Church (WICC), Padum Pukhuri on October 18.
Addressing Dimapur Meküli students and kins, the main speaker, retired Principal from the Department of Higher Education, Nagaland, Akok Walling shared about the village’s origins. He highlighted Meküli’s rich history, spiritual essence and deep connection to faith, rooted in “the blood of Jesus Christ.”
Walling referenced Proverbs 22:28-29, emphasising moral guidelines, social justice, property rights and relationships. He stressed on respecting heritage, safeguarding vulnerable individuals and recognising God’s role in protecting the marginalised.
“Respect the ancient landmarks set by your ancestors,” Walling stated, as he urged the students to appreciate cultural roots, honour ancestral traditions and to embody social responsibility.
Walling’s message encouraged Meküli youth to value their legacy and contribute to a just society.
In his greetings, Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) President, Imnatemsu Pongen congratulated DMST on achieving a remarkable 25 years.
Pongen hailed DMST’s quarter-century milestone as a significant feat, particularly in a place like Dimapur. “Reaching 25 years is a testament to perseverance and dedication,” he stated.
He said that the accomplishment blesses and honours ASUD as DMST celebrates its commitment to excellence.
Pongen also encouraged DMST members to envision their 50th year with ambition and clear goals.
“ASUD supports DMST’s continued growth, fostering meaningful contributions to our community,” he emphasised.
The programme was led by the DMST officers, Bible reading by Meküli Senso missionary, Rev Imliakum Jamir, and welcome address by DMST president Aonochet Walling. Jubilee song was presented by DMST, recognition address by DMST chair, genesis of Meküli by Er T Longri Ao, prayer for DMST by WICC pastor Alemsunep Jamir, and vote of thanks by convener, jubilee planning committee, Sakusangba.
Earlier, a souvenir was released to commemorate the event.
